The nearest trains are at Didcot Parkway station where there are fast
trains to Oxford, Reading and London. Unfortunately, the buses are not
timed to connect to them; there can often be an hour to wait and the buses
stop in the early evening.
The National Rail website gives
information for all rail services and timetables in the UK.

Bus Stops
- A notice giving current bus times is posted in Main street, on a lamp
post near the bus shelter across the road from the former village shop,
still called 'Chilton Post Office' although it is no longer open
and there is no notice saying 'Post office' on the outside.
- 'Chilton Turn' is a 'request stop' near the
roundabout and bridge over the A34 on the side of the
slip roads from/to the A34 with no 'bus stop' sign.
To Newbury (from Didcot) stand by the slip road
on the Chilton side of the roundabout. To Didcot (buses from Newbury) cross
the bridge over the A34 and wait beside the slip road towards the end of the
lane where traffic from the A34 South merges with traffic coming over the
bridge.
- 'Latton Close' this is a request stop at the small
section of footpath on the bank for buses which stop at Chilton Post Office.
Some buses will also stop on request by the letter box at the junction of
Latton Close and Limetrees.
- 'Harwell IBC' this is the Harwell Bus Park halfway down
Fermi Avenue, near the old Harwell Library. Buses will usually stop for you
on request at the bus shelter just past the AEA Main gate on the A4185
towards Rowstock (about a 20 minute brisk walk from Main Street).

closure of the northern slip road, starting 15 Jan 2007.
The no 9 stops at Chilton Post Office approximately every 2 hours.
The no 6 stops at Chilton Turn approximately every 2 hours.
These two
services together provide a roughly hourly service from Didcot railway station
to Chilton.
After 1st April 2005 the buses will no longer be allowed to stop at
Chilton Turn because Oxfordshire County Council and Thames Valley
Police think the junction is unsafe. So if you want to catch the
no.6 you will have to walk to the AEA Bus Park unless the Newbury buses can be
persuaded to come through the village.

Roads

atlas of 1675 when the main road from Oxford to Southampton passed through
the village. This has now become the A34, a 4 lane highway bisecting the
village.
A34 access
there are only exit slip roads to/from the South in Chilton. Click here for latest news of repairs.
Access to both the North and South sides of the A34 is from the Milton
interchange about 4 miles North along the A4185.
Cyclists trying to get South, to East or West Ilsley or Newbury,
have to take their life in their hands and ride on the A34 verge or go round
on rough tracks only passable by mountian bikes.
